I really enjoyed the tea ceremony and the calligraphy class.

Kaitlynn from Summer 2023

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I really enjoyed the tea ceremony and the calligraphy class. The get togethers were also a great way of meeting other students and teachers, and using more japanese.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

The calligraphy was my favourite, but the class overall was very interesting since it made me apply japanese to speech.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

I liked the textbooks and games, and we did a lot of acting out scenes which helped a lot.

Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?

Don't slack off, and put your all into studying the language, since it is a very rare opportunity to be in Japan.

Testimonials

I found tests to be a good indicator of where I was at over homework. The homework only covered one topic usually, but tests would cover a wider variety of them mixed around. I’ve never studied Japanese from a textbook in this style, so the textbooks have been extremely helpful in visualizing Japanese grammar points.
